What is a typical Italian dish?
Pasta: Undoubtedly one of the best-known Italian dishes. Most pastas are distinguished by their shape, like penne, macaroni, spaghetti, linguine, fusilli, lasagne, and varieties that are filled with cheese and meat, like ravioli and tortellini.
Pizza: Another all-Italian symbol, which every pizza chef enriches with tastes and ingredients unique to their kitchen. The traditional pizza originated in Neapolitan cuisine, and is an oven-baked, round bread topped with tomato sauce, cheese (often mozzarella), and additional toppings.
Lasagna: This traditional Italian pasta dish is made of layers of thin flat pasta, alternated with fillings such as tomato sauce and other vegetables, cheese, and herbs like oregano and basil.
Risotto: A northern Italian rice dish cooked in broth until it reaches a thick, creamy consistency. Risotto can be prepared with any combination of meat, fish, or vegetables as well as butter, onion, white wine, and parmesan cheese.
Tiramisu: A well-known and incredibly popular Italian dessert. This sweet treat consists of ladyfingers, coffee, eggs, sugar, cocoa and mascarpone cheese. Click here to learn more about Italian food culture.
