Destination Zeeland, The Netherlands
The Netherlands is made up of twelve very distinctive provinces, the smallest and least populous of which is Zeeland. This beautiful and remote province is located in the south-west of the country, bordering North Brabant to the east, South Holland to the north, and Belgium to the south and west. It offers its visitors vast sweeping dunes, dramatic sea view walks and the most delicious produce from both the sea and the land.
Cuisine in Zeeland
Zeeland’s dramatic 650 kms of North Sea coastline, which resemble fingers on a map, mean it is the perfect location for discovering all of the fruits of the sea, in particular oysters, lobster, shrimps and mussels. As well as this delicious seafood Zeeland is also popular for Brussel sprouts, asparagus, lamb and cheese, making it a real foodie destination.
Sightseeing in Zeeland
Zeeland is known for its Deltawerken and the Oosterscheldekering, the largest of the Delta Works, is its most famous. It is a series of dams and storm surge barriers designed to protect the Netherlands from flooding from the North Sea. Besides this, Zeeland has impressive castles, churches, special lighthouses and monumental buildings all over, for visitors to soak up the atmosphere. It is also the perfect region for walkers as you traverse over high dune tops, along wide beaches and through quaint old villages and towns.
