Restaurant Kuppelrain
Restaurant Kuppelrain in Castelbello, Italy, is the culinary playground of owner and chef Jörg Trafojer. Here, the chef cooks up his modern terroir-based dishes with an innovative twist. His refined and elegant gourmet cuisine hasn’t gone unnoticed: in 2001 the restaurant was awarded its first Michelin star, which has been renewed by the Michelin Guide since. Next to its critically-acclaimed kitchen, this fine-dining destination also offers an extensive wine list, selected by in-house sommelier Sonya, the chef’s spouse. You can wine and dine in the restaurant’s art nouveau-style dining room or on the garden terrace with a view, if the weather allows it.
Kuppelrain’s cuisine
At restaurant Kuppelrain, chef Jörg Trafojer presents compositions that are daring, surprising and sophisticated. On the menu, you can find traditional and creative local specialties. Like cod, cooked in olive oil, with peas, asparagus and verbena; and roe deer with parsnips, South Tyrolean mushrooms and shallots. With great respect for nature, this Michelin star chef and his team only work with high-quality seasonal products from the region and as many organic ingredients as possible. Such as Val Venosta asparagus, lamb from high-alpine pastures, and sun-ripened autumn fruit. To enhance the ingredients’ individual flavours, chef Jörg uses carefully selected herbs and spices. To complement the courses, sommelier Sonya offers a large wine selection with over 500 excellent labels from Italy and abroad. A visit to the restaurant’s beautiful wine cellar is highly recommended.
Castelbello-Ciardes area
Restaurant Kuppelrain is located in the comune of Castelbello-Ciardes (also known as Kastelbell-Tschars) in South Tyrol, northern Italy. One of the most popular sights in this area includes the Juval Castle with its Messner Mountain Museum. This castle used to be the summer residence of the famous mountaineer Reinhold Messner. If you wish to embark on a city trip, you can visit Meran/Merano (24 km) or Bolzano/Bozen (51 km).
Hotel Kuppelrain
Guests also have a chance to extend their stay at the Kuppelrain hotel, which offers a total of four luxurious rooms, all furnished in a distinctive style. In addition to the individually furnished rooms, there are original paintings by well-known South Tyrol artists from the 19th and 20th centuries. The Kuppelrain was built of solid stone, from the cellar to the roof. You can still see the traces of the original material in parts of the suites, which adds to the authentic character of the hotel.
