Innovative with tradition
Andreas Knauss
A winemaker and vineyardAndreas Knauß was born in 1982 and chose, in keeping with the family tradition, to become a winemaker. After attending a master's program in viticulture and oenology, he completed an internship at a well-known winery in Burgendland, Austria. Today he is responsible for the winemaking and marketing of the Gutswein, Ortswein and Lagenwein categories at the Knauß winery. He feels committed to the traditions of the winery but always provides the necessary innovations to be able to deliver consistently high quality. To Andreas Knauß, finding the right time in each phase of wine growing and vinification is fundamental to his style.
"For us and our company, the JRE network means being able to work with professional and passionate partners in the gourmet sector at a high level. Additionally, it means our wines are appreciated and enjoyed by our partners in the same way."

Optimal heights, beautiful locations…
…and vineyards as far as the eye can see: the area aroundStockelbach is one of the largest wine-growing centers in Baden-Württemberg. In the individual vineyards of Altenberg and Nonnenberg, the Knauß wines are grown in soils consisting of Keuper and weathered sandstone. The vineyards are located at various heights ranging from 270 meters to 430 meters, so each grape variety has the best location. Strong yield reduction in favor of the best quality is a goal. By planting densely (6000 vines per hectare), the winegrowers force deep root formation, perform short pruning and work intensively on the foliage. Using selective hand-picking, only absolutely healthy, aromatic, ripe and healthy grapes make their way into the stainless steel tanks, wooden barrels and barriques, and then into the wine bottles.
Characteristic wine
Unmistakable. Headstrong. Authentic. Knauß produces two thirds of its wines from red grape varieties Trollinger, Lemberger, Pinot Noir, and Merlot, and one third from white grape varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. All of them are characterized by the fact that they are produced strictly ecologically, in the vineyard as well as in the cellar. Andreas Knauß is a winemaker who practices the principle "less is more", which means sparingly manipulating the winemaking process and remaining very minimalistic. In this sense, Knauß' wine represents not only the region and the location in which it is grown, but also a finely balanced combination of tradition and modernity.
