Growing up in a family of bakers and pastry chefs, cooking is second nature for chef Didier Galet. He studied at the hotel school in Spa, and began working as an apprentice at L'Hostellerie Lafarques in Pepinster. Following the example of his mentor and chef, Mr. Lafarques, Didier started creating the type of contemporary cuisine that he’s known for today: innovative dishes with a personal touch. After ten years at L'Hostellerie Lafarques and working as a caterer and producer of Herve cheese, Didier decided it was time for a new adventure. So he joined forces with his wife Christiane and opened his very own gastronomic hotspot in Sprimont.
Didier Galet
Sprimont, BelgiumNamed after its owner, chef Didier Galet, this restaurant is a personal favourite among local gourmets. But being one of the few restaurants in the area where regional wild game and high-quality local products play a starring role, it’s also very much worth the detour for food enthusiasts from abroad. Previously known as ‘Maison des Saveurs’, this fine-dining villa in the Belgian countryside was taken over by Didier and Christiane, sommelier and spouse, in 1998. Chef Didier’s contemporary cuisine mainly revolves around fish, meat, shellfish, game, and his pièce de résistance: foie gras. As a guest, you’re warmly greeted by Didier and Christiane themselves. The interior feels modern and elegant, and is decorated with beautiful abstract paintings by Christiane. On sunny days, you can dine out on the restaurant’s spacious terrace or in the garden, accompanied by the soothing sounds of the Ourthe and Amblève river streams.
